Why did Dr. Bakos incorporate skin rejuvenation care into her practice? Dr. Irene Bakos has done various cosmetic procedures concerning the eyelids and the skin around the eyes for over fifteen years. Smile lines and eyelid wrinkles easily develop as a normal part of skin. Concern about her own "wrinkles" led to her interest in cosmetic and functional improvement of droopy eyelids and creases around the eyes. Dr. Bakos has undergone both CO2 and Erbium skin resurfacing and can well relate to the procedures from the patient's point of view.
How does microdermabrasion differ from laser skin resurfacing? Laser skin resurfacing is a controlled burn of the skin to promote the reformation and realignment of collagen. Laser procedures require seven to ten days of healing and are more involved and may have more serious complications. A full-face treatment is approximately $3,000. Microdermabrasion is a controlled exfoliation of the skin using fine corundum (sand-like) crystals. One can expect the skin to have a mild "sunburn" effect lasting typically about an hour. Collagen producing cells are stimulated and go into a repair mode to promote a younger layer of skin. Treatments are approximately $150 each. Dr. Bakos has even been featured on WGN Channel 9 News, presenting Microdermabrasion to the Chicagoland viewers.
